We have a clear understanding on the importance of sustainability when manufacturing. We ensure we use the best environmentally friendly products from adhesive, finishes, right down to our packaging.

SUSTAINABILITY

When it comes to commodities impacting the environment, wood is one of the most sustainable options. Natural wood is a renewable source of flooring, which can be grown repeatedly, it does not require the same amount of energy to produce as many other building materials.

Wood has the benefit of being able to store carbon throughout its lifecycle. The carbon that is stored in the wood can help offset the emissions that are used during the manufacturing process, particularly when it’s from a sustainably managed forest.

Less hardwood is used with engineered flooring. Hardwood is sought after for its unique character and beautiful aesthetic. Hardwood is a slow growing wood, and to replace it takes many years. Choosing engineered flooring over solid floorboards is of course a better environmentally friendly option as you are using a product with a layer of oak veneer on top, compared to solid hardwood floorboards. In return, you are getting the most out of the hardwood, as it is only supplying the top layer of the floorboard. The remaining layers of the engineered flooring is comprised of sustainable plywood.

OUR GREEN COMMITMENT

Our engineered flooring collections are manufactured using non-controversial hardwood plywood and carefully sourced hardwood timbers. Each wood plank is constructed from wood harvested from legal and sustainable forests and is precision-engineered to create as little waste as possible.

LACEY ACT

Oak Floors New York have not purchased any raw materials, oak hardwood or plywood which have been illegally traded through any part of the supply chain.

We are responsible for implementing our Lacey Act policy and procedures. This is continuous due care including risk assessment and management to avoid wood that has been illegally harvested and traded in any part of our manufacturing process.

FLOORSCORE

FloorScore provides assurance for our buyers concerned about Indoor Air Quality (IAQ). Our collections are tested by independently verifying our manufactured flooring meets emission limits for 35 individual VOCs (including formaldehyde) specified by the California Standard Method V1.2, otherwise known as CA Section 01350.

FSC CERTIFICATION

Forest Stewardship Council is a global forest certification system to provide a guarantee that forest products come from responsibly managed sources. They are a trusted sign of responsible use of the planet’s forest resources.

FSC certified products available on request. It is within our family's ethics to be fully committed to promote and support sustainable forest management and ethical harvesting, so we have a full FSC chain of custody programme if requested for specific orders.

Among other things, well-managed forestry operations consider the habitat of wildlife, ecosystem health, the rights of indigenous peoples, local communities, and water and soil quality.
